Wagons

Went to Orion's yesterday and I jumped off the wagon for a few hours. I'm not going to say I fell off because it's not like it wasn't a willing exit. I had a beer and a big glass of wine. Neither the beer nor the wine was worth getting off. No big deal either way. The thing about wagons is that there's a reason they put a gate on the back. There's a distinct need for things to be put on and taken off.

On a related note I'm now going to start eating a vegetarian diet except for most dinners, some lunches, and the occasional breakfast.

The weekend was decent but very fast. We had our first team rider defect to another team yesterday, though it came as no surprise as we had known for a month it was possible. Here's the thing about people. They can't keep their mouths shut. People talk, and talk, and talk. So there really is no such thing as a secret. Personally, I hate secrets because it forces me to try and remember what I can and cannot say to different people. That's just hard to sort out at the age of 36.

This is Monday morning, and I feel extremely good today. Saturday's ride was a lot of fun though I went over at least 3 if not 4-5 times, so I'm sore all over. I can't wait for Ben to post the video of this so I can see what a bunch of assholes we look like trying to ride the log rollers.

That's all I got this Monday morning, at least for now.

103 Days

Just for the record, I made it to 103 days before having my first beer. The goal was 90 but once I got to 90 I wanted to make 100 and get past the first (sorta) event of the year.

Sunday evening Lou came over and we grilled up burgers and some veggies and I popped the cap for the first time since January 8th. The beer of choice was Pranqster, a tasty Belgian Strong Pale Ale that hit the spot. I went with the Belgian as my beer of choice because everything in the basement is over 3 months old and the more yeasty beers tend to keep better.

In the spirit of over analyzing everything I will offer 2 thoughts. The first is that beer is as good as I remember it being but I didn't want another. The second is that my body seemed to process the alcohol rapidly. For a 7.2% abv beer, I had a light buzz for about half an hour then done. I would have expected more of an impact but I'm happy it was more benign.

So that streak is over. Today is day 4 of my new streak. I make no overtures that this one will last quite so long, however.

90 Days

Yesterday, Easter, marked 90 straight days without a drink. What's my result? Lowest weight since grade school (saw 183 last week), feel amazing, and fitter than ever by a long shot. I've been training like a mad man (9:20 in the saddle last week) and eating really healthy (yesterday not included) so it's not only a lack of beer. But it all rolls together to get me where I'm at now. Still plenty of work to do before the racing season punches me in the gut, and this coming weekend will do little to help that cause with the Doodle's first birthday party on Saturday and rain forecast for Sunday (down to 40% chance now). I think the idea is to get to 100 days without a drink which means not popping the cap with all the old college buddies this weekend. No big deal since nobody drinks that much anymore. Either way, I'm in good shape right now for the coming season. I'm sure there will be a different summary after the first race in late May. Anyway, I'm officially off the self-imposed 90 day alcohol free period. Let the race season deteriorate as it will.
