Been a Long Time
It's been a while since I've posted anything here. I note a lot of bloggers fall into the summer doldrums as far as quantity of posts goes. I think it has something to do with having a full cup. I have no time to dally around with blog postings when I literally haven't cut the grass in over a month. There are people I haven't emailed back in weeks, if not months. I haven't forgotten. I just have no time to reply when I get home at night. Let's take last night for example.
I get home at about 5:40. Melissa & kids and Tracie and kid were at the house, so I hung out for 45 minutes with them until they all rapidly packed up and left. Then I spent a few minutes eating dinner with wife & child before taking off for a short road ride. I'm in a taper period, which for those of you who don't bike means I'm backing off the time in the saddle as the event approaches. The event, 24 hours of Allamuchy, is something like 9 days away now. Or 8, whatever. The aim is to be rested but to maintain fitness, a questionable goal considering I may not have enough fitness to do 2 laps.
I get back from the 38 minute ride and shower. It's now about 7:45. Vinny had left a message on the machine so I called him back. 45 horribly confusing minutes later, we gave Julia a bath. Then I called my mom for 5 minutes and before I knew it, the clock says 9:00. I spent a few minutes flying around with Julia, then it was time for bed by 9:20.
Dazed, I considered a beer but figured it would do no good to chug it, brush my teeth, then go to bed. So I checked my email and went to bed after that. Time is at a premium in the summer. I think a lot of people spend it outdoors, maybe mowing their lawn. Not me. The lawn will be there next week, and the week after that.
