10 Years
This past Saturday my wife and I celebrated 10 years together. We've been married almost half that time, but June 10, 1996 marks the beginning of the run. It's hard to believe it's been 10 years. But here we are, married for 5 years with a house and a kid. We don't have a dog nor a picket fence. Our yard is far too narrow to go dividing our's from the neighbor's. But we do have a river in the back, something that will probably dictate that we get a fence eventually, when the little girl starts running around the yard.
For our anniversary we got each other dirty diapers from our daughter, since that's what life is all about right now. But Julia was so kind as to give us the best present of all, which was a night where we slept soundly for the first time since she was born. For the first time ever, she slept until 4:00 in the morning, waking up to feed then going back to bed until 6:30. It was the best night of sleep we've had in the 2 months she's been alive. Nothing could have been a better present than that.
Last night she did not repeat the performance, but she only woke up twice. Once at 1:00 and once at 3:30. After that she made it until dawn. These are the first 2 days she's even woken up any fewer than 3 times. I look at it as a good sign, this sleeping thing. Maybe soon she'll be giving us routine nights where she only wakes up once. Regardless, for the first time since she was born, waking up and going to work on Monday morning wasn't quite as hard as it normally is. Ten years later, and that's where we stand.
